Internet/Computer Acceptable Use
Ramara Public Library does not act in place or in absence of a parent
and is not responsible for enforcing any restrictions which a parent or
guardian may place on a minors use of this resource.
All electronic transactions originating from the Library Internet connection
shall be in accordance with the Acceptable Use Policy. Failure to
abide by the Policies will result in the loss of Internet privileges.
Acceptable Use:
Compliance with legal copyright and licensing laws.
Careful regard for the security of the Librarys computers and
those on the Internet.
Responsible use for informational, educational or recreational use
only.
Unacceptable Use:
It is not acceptable to use the Librarys Internet connection
for any purposes that contravene Federal or Provincial laws, or to transmit
threatening, obscene or harassing materials or to interfere with computer
networks or services of others.
Users must not represent themselves as another person.
It is not acceptable to access or transmit pornographic material.
Internet Use Disclaimer
The Internet is unregulated by any government body and the information
contained therein may not be accurate, unlike information contained
in the Library which has undergone peer and editorial review at the
publisher's level, and has been selected according to the Library's
Selection Policy.
Access points cannot be controlled and change rapidly and unpredictably.
An Internet site which a patron accessed one day, may be gone the next
and the Library has no control over this.
Access to materials considered inappropriate to a library collection
are found on the Internet and cannot be controlled. Therefore, parents
must be responsible for and monitor their children's use of the Internet.
Computer/Internet Use Policy
- All patrons must sign in & sign out on the Tracking Sheet for
computer use.
- Patrons will be limited to a 30 minutes sitting if there is a demand
for computers
- The regulations of the library shall be abided by and patrons assume
responsibility for any damage or misuse of the computer equipment and
disks.
- Students under the age of 16 years & under are the responsibility
of their parents/legal guardian.
- No downloading of software and/or games is permitted.
- Maximum group size is three(3) people around computer at one time.
- All chat lines are off limits.
- Hard copies of patron generated documents, researched reference and
resource information shall be allowed to be printed out at a nominal
cost.
- In the event that several patrons are seeking access to the computers
at the same time, the CEO or staff may, at their discretion, be forced
to limit the amount of time of any one patron at any one sitting.
- Non-library disks, CDs and DVDs must not be used on library computers.
- Patrons may purchase a disk from staff to save documents which will
be kept at the library for their own use. If the disk is removed
from the library, it will be considered a non-library disk as stated
above.
